ellen chang | youth director
I grew up in Cary, North Carolina and moved to New York in 2014 when KPCow became my new faith community. I grew from member to staff during my early years here and was commissioned as the Youth Director on January 1, 2017. Experiencing God’s work with our youth generation continues to be a powerful witness of Christ’s love, and I am honored to journey faith alongside them. My husband and I live in Connecticut where we always crave Korean home-cooked meals, dream of adopting a cat, and enjoy the Nintendo Switch.
joe jang | worship pastor
Pastor Joe Jang grew up in South America. =)
julia cho | children’s church pastor
I was born in Korea and immigrated to Michigan, US. There, my uncle and his family introduced us to the church. After a few months, we moved to the Bronx. I learned who Jesus was in my youth years and served as a Sunday School Teacher’s assistant and loved working with children. Although I felt I was never gifted, I realized I was good with children, and they also loved me. I decided to major in special education and elementary education for undergrad and graduate school. Then, much like my favorite Bible character, Moses, when God called me to go to seminary, I told God, “I can’t because I do not speak well.” However, God affirmed that the Holy Spirit will help serve in God’s ministry. I thought you have to be perfect in order to be used by God but 2 Timothy 2:20 says, “In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.” This teaches me that although I fall short in many ways, God can use me for His purpose. I am grateful to be a part of the KPCoW community in which I have great partners in ministry.
rev. matthew jun | senior pastor
Rev. Matthew Jun [Senior Pastor] was born in Incheon in 1962, he immigrated to the US in 1982 and graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) in Chemistry in 1988. Having received the call early on to be a servant of Christ, he graduated from Union Theological Seminary with a Master’s in Divinity in 1993 and was ordained in 1995. He is married and has three kids (daughters Yoora and Sora, son Harin) with his wife Mikyung Han. He is fluent in Korean, English and Spanish.
Rev. Jun has been a missionary for more than 10 years (Cuba & Nicaragua). Prior to this, he was the Senior Pastor for the New Haven Korean Church and Associate Pastor for the Korean Presbyterian Church of Metro Detroit, having served for more than 13 years. His pastoral philosophy states that through the spiritual growth of the community of believers, this will glorify God and bring Him happiness. His pastoral plan is to grow and mature the church community through God’s word and worship, prayer and the Spirit, sharing and serving, grace and experience, and by building communities of worship, spirituality, missions and grace as part of his pastoral vision.
