Job 1 Control In Chaos

Control In Chaos
Job 1:13-22

Wisdom literature sheds light on the human plight, especially tragedies.  Wisdom from Proverbs is instructional and assumes a positive relationship between humanity and nature.  Wisdom from Ecclesiastes assumes a vain outlook for the future and instead focuses on the present relationship with God.  Job diverges from either of these two views and instead opts to bypass trying to make sense of the chaos.  In the midst of seemingly arbitrary tragedies, Job clings onto the one thing that is not arbitrary but ordered: worship.  Job sets a difficult but meaningful example Christians can follow.

Then Job arose, tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell on the ground and worshiped. – Job 1:20
